The Blair County Sheriff's Department is pleased to announce that Deputy RJ Peo was promoted to Corporal of the K-9 Division this week.

Corporal Peo was instrumental in helping to develop the K-9 program in 2013. Peo and K-9 Lily have been serving Blair County as the sole members of the K-9 Division until the units expansion this year.

Thank you for your continued dedication and hard work Corporal Peo!

The Blair County Sheriff’s Department is proud to announce the arrival of “Rik” a 3 year old Belgian Malinois (pronounced Malin-wa). Rik was donated to us from a Special Operations Unit at Ft. Bragg NC. Rik served 1 year in Afghanistan, where he developed a fear of large explosions and had to be retired from the Military Working Dog (MWD) program.

Fortunately for the Blair County Sheriff’s Department, Rik was an excellent fit for K-9 operations, as his potential exposure to large explosions is greatly reduced working in a civilian law enforcement role.
We surveyed our deputies in search of a K-9 Officer and found a great deal of interest, which resulted in a competitive interview process. As a result of the interview process, Deputy Steve Nader was selected to be Rik’s K-9 handler. Deputy Nader is veteran with over 20 years of military service, including service in the same operational environments where Rik supported military operations.
Deputy Nader and Rik will now continue their service to the citizens of Blair County as they work together as a team to become certified in explosive detection, patrol operations and human trafficking.

The Sheriff K-9 unit is funded solely by donations from the community. Not one tax payer dollar goes toward the dogs or the equipment needed to operate them. The local community has been overwhelmingly generous when it comes to these exceptional dogs and we would be unable to provide K-9 services without the partnership between the Blair County Sheriff’s Department and the local community. We thank you for your support!
Should you feel inclined to donate and help the Sheriff K-9 unit, please send all donations to:
