Iron County Sheriff's Office

The office of Sheriff is a constitutionally created office with duties prescribed by the Utah legislature. The sheriff is the chief law enforcement officer for the county and is elected every four years. The sheriff has countywide jurisdiction, but in practice, mostly concentrates activities outside city limits where municipal officers cannot operate. The Sheriff has been charged with the responsibility to maintain the public peace and protecting life and property of all citizens of Iron County. Obligations and responsibilities have continuously grown throughout the years. The duties of the Sheriff’s Office have increased as administrative procedures, court decisions, and requirements of the laws have brought about sophisticated and technical advancements to Law Enforcement. The Sheriff’s Office is comprised of several divisions which perform the varied duties required by Utah Law, the Criminal Justice System, and the public need.

Last night (02-24-19) Iron County Sheriff’s Office, Iron County Search and Rescue and SUU Aviation responded to the Brian Head area to assist Brian Head Marshal’s Office on two overdue subjects. With the partnership with SUU Aviation and the night vision capabilities, we were able to locate both subjects who were exposed to the elements and had taken shelter in a cabin. When they heard the aircraft in the area they came outside and started to signal their location. The subjects were located away from the area where they were originally believed to be in. They were transported out of the area.
The search with the aircraft took approximately 25 minutes to locate them. Iron County Search and Rescue and Brian Head Marshal's Office were searching the area as well as by snowmobile. We are grateful to have the outcome we had and to be part of this team effort.
