Bishop Lagonegro wrote this stunning endorsement of Operation Archangel today.
"Many years ago, when I visited the Holy Land, I went to the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem.
I was shocked to see that the large arch doorways had been closed off. The only entrance to the Church was a small doorway in which only one person could enter at a time. The doorway was so low that for the one person to enter he had to bend over.
When the Church had been built, horseman would ride into the Church and slaughter people inside praying.
One guard standing inside the door could protect everyone inside.
It is sad that now, here, in our own country, we must take precautions to protect our people in our housing of worship.
I cannot thank Sherriff Carl DuBois enough for his vision and foresight in setting up a
Special Operations Group to help protect our houses of worship.
Sergeant John Trazino and his officers have put together a great plan, “Operation Archangel” to help protect our people as they come to worship.
I urge all religious leaders in Orange County to work with the Sheriff Department so that our people can feel safe and secure when they come to worship God in our houses of worship.
Once again, Thank you to Sheriff Carl DuBois, Sergeant John Trazino and all the members of the Special Operations Group."
Bishop Dominick Lagonegro, Auxiliary Bishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York and Vicar of Rockland, Orange, Sullivan and Ulster Counties.
