Today, is Sheriff Bill’s last day with the Sheriff’s Office. Bill has been our Sheriff for the past 16 years and he worked for Glyndon, Dilworth and Moorhead Police Departments before being elected Sheriff in 2002. He has also been a member of the Dilworth Fire Department since 1976 and he continues to serve there.

Over the past 16 years, the Sheriff’s Office has grown in size with more Deputies and Correctional Officers. Some programs that have been implemented under Bill’s tenure are; the Emergency Manager within the Sheriff’s Office, Metro Street Crimes Unit, School Resource Officers, Sheriff’s Posse, Sergeants, a new Law Enforcement Center and Correctional Center. Bill also played a big role in implementing the Clay County Jail Ministry, a program which he is very proud of. There have been several other programs and incidents that Bill has been a part of as well. As Sheriff, Bill also continued as the DARE officer for several years as well.

Sheriff Bill Bergquist, CONGRATULATIONS on your retirement and we “Thank You” for your dedicated service to the citizens of Clay County! Enjoy your retirement and stop by the Law Enforcement Center anytime to see us.

You are going to be a tough act to follow!!

Thank You
Sheriff Mark Empting

After 34 years of Law Enforcement service, Lt. Bryan Green has decided to retire. During his time with the Sheriff’s Office; Bryan spent time as a Patrol Deputy, an Investigator and the Emergency Manager for Clay County. Bryan worked as an MP in the military and an officer for the Fargo Police Department before joining the Sheriff’s Office.

We were going to have a retirement gathering for him on Friday but due to the weather he was not able to make it into the office.

Congratulations on your retirement Bryan!
