Sheriff McDermott’s “Are You OK?” program recently helped an elderly woman who was without heat and telephone service. When the 78-year-old Avon woman did not answer her daily phone call, Officer Cheryl Bambery called her cell phone and she stated that her house phone was broken and that she had no heat and four blankets on. She started to cry and said she did not know what to do. Officer Bambery assured her that she could help and immediately contacted the Avon Council on Aging, who had oil delivered and her phone repaired. As a follow-up, Officer Bambery contacted the senior and her phone and heat are working fine. She expressed her gratitude to everyone, especially the “Are You OK?” program.
