This week, Ptl Fabio dos Santos was recognized for his outstanding efforts in supporting animal welfare by the Elkhart County Humane Society.

“The Humane Society frequently works in cooperation with law enforcement as they are dealing with cruelty and neglect situations as well as animals being seized due to drug busts, domestic violence and a whole assortment of circumstances. In order to do what is appropriate for the animals and ensure necessary follow up, it takes good cooperation between law enforcement and the shelter and a willingness to work in tandem. The Humane Society proudly recognizes the efforts by Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department Patrolman Fabio dos Santos in helping to support animal welfare rights and being a positive force to address animal abuse and neglect. It has been noted by our animal control officers that Patrolman dos Santos goes above and beyond in helping to support in these tenuous circumstances and dealing with potential suspects. Thanks so much, Patrolman dos Santos!”

Congratulations, Ptl dos Santos! We are proud to have you on our team!

Recently, the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department was presented with the Helping Hands Award from the Hospice Foundation which supports The Center for Hospice Care.

“The Helping Hands Award began in 1985 to recognize those who have contributed to the greater good of the community. In the event's 32 years it has raised $4,249,928 to support the work of Center for Hospice Care.
The 33rd Annual Helping Hands Award will honor the area's First Responders, or as we like to call them, Heroes at Hand. The jobs of First Responders are dangerous, and often thankless. They risk their lives every day so that we can go about our daily activities without worrying about our safety. These men and women perform their jobs whether we thank them or not. It is their duty. It is their chosen profession. They deserve our gratitude and our respect.” –Hospice Foundation
