Overnight from 9pm - 5am, Lt. Casey Lehman, Cpl Chad Hoien, Ptl Alex Kelly, Reserve Ptl Corey Smith and Reserve Ptl Roy K.C. Clements came out to work extra traffic enforcement due to a high rate of impaired drivers on the night before Thanksgiving. The event was conducted during the Operation Pull Over Blitz targeting impaired drivers.The following arrests were made as a result of these patrols:

-Mitchell Scott Regner, 24, was stopped for speeding (70 mph in a 45 mph zone) on CR 6 at John Weaver Pkwy. He was arrested for operating while intoxicated with a BrAC of .206

-Elmer Yoleni Marquez Diaz, 24, was found at a crash scene in Old Farm Apartments and was found to be in possession of cocaine. The crash remains under investigation by the Elkhart City Police Department.

-Jonathan Salazar Doria, 24, was stopped by Goshen PD for speeding and swerving on US 33 at Peddlers Village Rd. The investigation was assisted and taken over by an ECSD officer working the Blitz. Salazar Doria was arrested for operating while intoxicated with a BrAC of .125

-Eduardo Gonzalez, 24, was stopped in Brookside Manor after being called in as an impaired driver by a concerned citizen. He fled from the traffic stop into his residence. A search warrant was obtained for the residence and he was taken into custody on multiple warrants for Domestic Violence and Synthetic Identity Deception with a $100,000 total bond. He was arrested on new charges of Resisting Law Enforcement, Never Receiving a License, and Operating While Intoxicated.

The following citations were written:
-littering
-open container violation
-throwing burning material from a moving vehicle
-3 for speeding citations (75/45, 60/50, 68/50)
-passing in no passing zone

The following warnings were written:
-3 for driving left of center
-unsafe lane movement
-disregarding lighted signal

Our officers are dedicated to enforce traffic laws to keep our roadways safe for traveling motorists. Drivers found to be intoxicated will be pursued aggressively and arrested.

Meet our newest Corrections K-9, Roxy. Roxy is a 1 1/2 old pitbull and is a rescue dog, She was saved from a shelter in Saginaw, MI. Michelle Steigmeyer, from Indiana K-9 Learning Center rescued Roxy. Roxy is currently in training with her handler CO Rick Jasinksi. Also thank you to the Elkhart City Police Department for donating the Ford Crown Vic that Roxy and CO Jasinski use.

The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department is responding to a fatal crash where a semi and car hit each other on Old US 33, between Elk Park Dr and LaRue.

Please avoid the area, as the road will be shut down for the next few hours, with the exception for employees going to and leaving their place of employment close to the crash site.
