On Monday, April 16, 2018, the Weld County Sheriff's Office Mounted Posse Unit paid their final respects to long time Mounted Posse Team Leader Kenneth Wayne Ramsey at his funeral service.

On May 18, 2017 Ken Ramsey was diagnosed with a Grade 4 Glioblastoma Brain Cancer that was considered terminal.

On Friday, April 7, 2018, Ken Ramsey was presented with a lifetime achievement award from the Colorado State Posse's Association.

On that day, Undersheriff, Donnie Patch said, "Ken has been an integral part of the Weld County Sheriff’s Posse' for many years and will be Sorley missed. Ken joined the Posse' a couple years after I did. For the past 16 years, he has been a good friend and mentor. He is an outstanding horseman, a quiet leader and willingly taught others everything he could about horsemanship. It was important for me to there today, because Ken has had an influence on my personal and professional growth as a leader, he truly is a mentor and has helped me learn many lessons in my leadership. Being there today gave me one last opportunity to tell him what a positive effect he had on me."

Ken passed away just five days after he was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Thank you for your dedicated service to the community and the Sheriff's Office.

Public Service Announcement - Be Wary of Paving Scams

The Weld County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind the community as the weather gets warmer we need to be wary of paving scams. These scammers go soliciting homeowners in doing asphalt paving and driveway seal work. They are often referred to as “Traveling Scammers” or “Paving Scams”.

These individuals will go door-to-door telling you that they have left over asphalt from a job they just finished. They’ll tell you that they are giving you a good deal and that the asphalt needs to be used right away. They ask for cash only payments and in the end, you the homeowner lose out on a great deal of money without receiving the services promised to you. The Weld County Sheriff’s Office cautions homeowners on this type of scams and wants to remind you to be suspicious of these door-to-door sales.

Here are six warnings signs courtesy of the Colorado Asphalt Pavement Association that can help you protect yourself from potential fraud.

Selling door-to-door: Reputable asphalt contractors do not sell their products door-to-door. Consumers should be very suspicious of anyone appearing at their front doors offering low-cost asphalt. Claiming they have leftover asphalt from another job: Asphalt is never left over from a project. Leftover asphalt materials would be too cold to place properly, while cold mix is used exclusively for small patches, not general paving. Asphalt is a perishable product and if it cools to much it is useless as an asphalt paving product.

One-time offer: Reputable contractors will provide a quote before doing any work so that the homeowner has a chance to shop around.

No contact offered: Insist upon a written contract specifying in detail, the work to be performed and the agreed amount.

Cash only sales: Most reputable contractors take checks or credit card and don’t require cash only terms.

Deals that seem to be good to be true: If the quoted price seems very low, chances are the quality of the work will also be quite low.

Vehicles with out of State license plate: This type of scam many times will be run by persons travelling through our area from other states. The big equipment may be licensed in Colorado, but many times the smaller equipment (pickups and trailers) will be licensed in other states.

Anyone with information regarding these type of scams is asked to call the Weld County Sheriff’s Office at 970-356-4015 or the Weld County Sheriff’s Office Crime Tip Line at 970-304-6464.
