Congratulations to Captain Caldwell, this month's recipient of the outstanding law enforcement officer award presented by the Greeley Kiwanis club.

Captain Caldwell has been with the Sheriff's Office for 20 years, and has held most of the ranks/titles within the agency. Alan is currently the Patrol Division Captain, and is in charge of Patrol, Investigations, SWAT, and Rescue Operations within Weld County.

Captain Caldwell is a man of focus, and drive, but he is also extremely humble. We had to trick him into thinking that he was giving this award to someone else just to get him to the ceremony! Captain Caldwell never seeks recognition and will always say that the men and women he supervises work harder than him, but he is very deserving of this award.

Please congratulate Captain Caldwell in person if you see him... we doubt that he has a Facebook account!

Tank Battery Incident

On May 25, 2017, at approximately 3:15 pm, the Weld County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the area near HWY 66 and WCR 13 in Mead Co to a report of an oil tank battery that was on fire.

When law enforcement personnel arrived on scene they found that an Anadarko oil tank battery was fully engulfed in flame.
An investigation of this incident revealed that this was an industrial accident that happened while maintenance was being performed on the battery.

3 individuals working on the battery were transported for further medical attention. Two were taken to North Colorado Medical Center for burn treatment, and one was taken to Medical Center of the Rockies.

The Weld County Sheriff’s Office, Mountain View Fire, and Anadarko worked together to ensure that all of the individuals working on the site were accounted for. Another individual working on the battery has been discovered, and was declared deceased at the scene.

The identity of the deceased will not be released at this time; it will be released by the Weld County Coroner’s Office at the conclusion of their investigative and administrative process.
Questions regarding the cause of the incident should be referred to the Anadarko Petroleum Corporation.

Anyone with information regarding this incident or any other crime is asked to call the Weld County Sheriff’s Office at 970-356-4015 or Northern Colorado Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or 1-800-444-3776. Tips can also be submitted through the Crime Stoppers website at www.crimeshurt.com. Those submitting tips through Crime Stoppers that lead to the arrest and filing of charges on a suspect(s) may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000 from Crime Stoppers.

Good Morning Weld County!

A few weeks ago we asked for help from the community to make the Fallen Hero Plates a permanent option here in Colorado. Thanks to your support, we have achieved this goal!

We have reached our minimum issuance requirements to ensure that these plates will not expire in July. For that reason, vouchers will no longer be issued to assist with purchasing these plates

If you would like to put these license plates on your vehicle, you will need to make a $50 donation to Colorado COPS, and there is also a $50 fee for the physical plates.

Thank you all for proudly displaying your support on your vehicles every day!

Good morning Weld County!

The Fallen Officers Memorial Ceremony has been canceled today due to the weather. We had planned for a great event, but we don’t want to make anyone come out in the rain.

This event is a joint venture that involves all of the law enforcement agencies in Weld County. The Weld County Posse and Honor guard as well as the Greeley Honor Guard had planned special demonstrations today, and command staff from different agencies in Weld County were going to read the names of all of the men and women who lost their lives in the line of duty in 2016.

We planned to provide food that was purchased through donations from the community and looked forward to an opportunity to thank the citizens who support us every day.

We plan to host another event when the weather is a bit more agreeable, and look forward to spending time with the Weld County Community.

More details about that event will be released when they are available.

Thank you all for you continued support!
